Following the announcement that the Leicester Tigers will start ‘clearing’ the hotel development project at Welford Road Stadium, the club have provided an update and advice to supporters on what to expect in the coming months. to come.
Led by real estate developer Marshalls Commercial Property Development Ltd, work will begin on the current Granby Halls car park on Monday March 23, 2020.
Access to the NCP car park will cease at the end of Wednesday March 18 with all existing NCP equipment, including ticket machines, signage and barriers, decommissioned and removed from the site before leaving on Friday March 20.
The existing entrance on the Welford Road side will then be closed to the public until the end of the project.
The project will not be affected by the postponement of matches in light of the current Covid-19 outbreak, and Marshalls will operate a closed and secure site during this time.
From Monday March 23, yellow signs will be erected around the perimeter of the current parking lot and there could be disruption to the trails as well as an increase in construction vehicle traffic via the current entrance on Welford Road.
The club are aware that there will be parking limitations in and around Welford Road Stadium in the coming months and will share more details regarding on-match and non-match parking following the current five-week suspension of the season , as reported by Premiership Rugby and EPCR.
Supporters with seasonal parking passes have been contacted by the club with regards to any disruption, and anyone who usually parks in the NCP or Crumbie parking lot will be advised of the appropriate changes.
The stadium’s VIP car park in front of the Holland & Barrett stand will remain accessible and will have 28 spaces for site visitors.
The club are aware that the current NCP and Crumbie car parks are used by the public, including staff and visitors to the Royal Leicester Infirmary.
The Crumbie car park will remain open and operational by the club at this point. This will be reviewed weekly pending advice from the Marshalls, LRI and the club. Nearby public parking options include the NCP car park further along Welford Road, accessible via Mill Street.
