The 4th of July is fast approaching and this year 47.9 million people are expected to travel. If you’re as curious as I am, you might be wondering where all these people are going. Thankfully, Priceline has done some research to determine the top destinations Americans will be traveling to this Independence Day and the average price to stay in those cities.

With the price of fuel and flights hitting an all-time high this summer, we are sad to say that according to Price linewe are also seeing an 18% increase in the average cost of hotels compared to last year.

Popular destinations and skyrocketing hotel room prices for the 4th of July don’t seem to have much in common, but they do. According to Priceline, Las Vegas, Nevada is the most popular travel destination in the United States for vacations. But of the top five destinations provided by Priceline, can you guess which one had the cheapest hotel room? Yes, it’s also Vegas. Hotel rooms in the casino-populated city average around $172 a night.
