A new £ 5million luxury hotel near the Malone Golf Club is to be developed by actor James Nesbitt and his development company.

According to the Irish News, the Ballymena man’s Nesbro Limited company has informed Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council of their intention to redevelop an old farmhouse in the village of Co Down in Drumbeg.

The new hotel is expected to be called Drumvale Hotel and will be located on a strip of land along the River Lagan, opposite Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.

According to the newspaper, the proposed notice of candidacy filed with the city council describes a plan to remove and replace a number of abandoned buildings in the old farmhouse.

The rural land will then be transformed into a public space with formal gardens, with a brasserie restaurant and a health and well-being spa also planned for the development.

A public unveiling of the proposal is expected to take place in late August, with a virtual meeting scheduled for August 30 and 31.

A consultation phase is also expected to take place in the coming months, including engagement with neighboring residents and businesses.

The newspaper revealed a document prepared by planning consultants employed by Mr Nesbitt’s company, indicating that background work, including ecological assessments and preliminary flooding, was underway over the past year.

The document says: ‘The proposal represents a significant capital investment in the local area of around £ 5million.

“There will also be primary jobs with new hotel jobs and secondary economic benefits through the local supply chain, construction jobs and non-domestic tariffs.

“Most people were unable or unwilling to travel on board and instead opted for a ‘stay’. This has resulted in a significant increase in the domestic tourist market in Northern Ireland and has highlighted a lack of quality accommodation.
